This is a  brick tunnel-like structure at the side of the house going back about 30yds into the hill.

We believe the explosives used at Hollybush Quarry were stored underground in this vault. It could also have been used for storing ice in bygone days.

The original well is in the vault, which used to supply the nearby Manor House and cottages.

Bats use the vault to hibernate during the winter months and can be seen hanging from the granite ceiling at the end of the tunnel.

We believe that the bats in the vault are Lesser Horseshoe bats. This picture was taken in our living room when it flew through the cellar and into the house.
